Knockout Format

This format could be used to as an alternate method to the “Round Robin Team Selection” to determine the placement within a team, placement for a new team member and selection of a “squad” for an upcoming match.

The team captain gets his/her list of players wanting to be on the squad, remember all players who wish to participate are automatically on the "Team".

The team captain and team members rate the players to the best of their abilities, either by USATT ratings, league ratings or knowledge of a players ability through observation.

All players are then listed in rated order.

It will be desirable to be as high on the list as possible since the numbers of players on a squad may vary according to how many players the opposing team can field.

Any player who thinks they can move up can challenge the next player above.

If the lower player wins then a rematch is in order if the recently defeated above player wishes. This may be done immediately or within 48 hours (or 24 or 6 hours what ever is decided by the team captain). If not completed within the specified time limit the first match stands.

If a lower rated player wins and no rematch is desired, or a rematch has been completed with the same results (the lower rated player wins again) then the lower player will be moved above the player just defeated and may challenge the next higher player. This may continue until the challenger can no longer win over a higher rated player.

This method of determining a complete teams ratings could also be used for any new player joining the team. First try to determine, either by observation, USATT rating, league rating, or any other method the team captain wishes, where the new member should be placed. Then follow the above method.

This complete method would eliminate the need to get all team players together for round robin games, greatly reducing the time frame to accurately rate a teams players.
